This story is a favorite request of many visitors. I take it down as it is not my favorite page and then I get a dozen emails asking me to put it up. Seems this story just loves to be shared at social gatherings. During litigation, we were extensively questioned as to whether we thought being "sexually traumatized by a curling iron was funny" by Ricart's attorney (with Ricart there in the room).
We had on the previous web page made a brief reference to the story and our response was that it was "parody." Ricart made a big stink of it. Hence, this must still be a sore spot for Fred (pardon the pun). As a result of getting questioned by Ricart's attorney about the curling on my web page, my attorneys made the following discovery request of Ricart.
32. All documents relating in any way to the "curling iron" incident discussed during the deposition of defendant.
RESPONSE: NONE. They avoided all requests for discovery on any of the issues at hand and eventually dropped everything.
You be the judge...
"The basic story here is that Fred's wife arrived home one evening to find him in bed with another women (or, in some versions, another man). She leaves without letting him know she has seen what is going on, comes back later and requests some "kinky sex," which involves Fred being tied up. Once he is firmly bound, she sticks a hot curling iron up his rectum, turns it on, and leaves. She, or someone else, then phones the 911 emergency number. The rescue squad arrive and police arrive, and Fred is transported to a local hospital". By Donna Wyckoff; FOAFTALE NEWS, No.32, February, 1994.
Write up in Columbus Alive in their 22 July-5 1993 edition continued by providing tongue-in-cheek discussion of Fred's trip to Riverside Hospital ER and an interview with hospital staff. Written by Steve Gambini, "Rear-ending the Ricart Rumor."
Several additional write-ups were in the The Other Paper.
In my opinion, it certainly wasn't being conveyed as a myth or fiction by Ricart attorneys during deposition! Given the intensity of their questioning, and amount of time they spent on the topic of the curling iron, I interpreted it as a truth being conveyed.
