During the course of this web page and
litigation I have received numerous e-mails and phone calls of
support. Some even from out of state. Below are just a few of the
ones I've received. If you wish to send a comment please use the
link below. I will not use your name or e-mail unless you specify
so. Actually, I encourage you not to use your name, just initials.
During discovery deposition, Ricart, requested the names and e-mails
of those who had written in support. They also wanted names and
e-mails of those expressing interest in class action litigation.
Sounds like a witch hunt huh? Most e-mails were deleted prior to
litigation, however, the ones delivered to Ricart had names,
addresses, phone numbers, e-mail address, and information in the
case that could lead to identification, blackened out and recopied.
I will continue to use the same care in maintaining anonymity. Please
note I can't post all the letters I receive.

From Ricart employees, educated consumers & victims of fraud
I live and work in Columbus, Ohio. Thank you for
stopping us from shopping at
Ricart. I had not heard about the website, but it is very
informative. I work
in the local media and am pleased to see any action against a
company that
swindles the public. Thanks again!!!

My
name is George xxxxx from the Columbus area. Today, Wed.
3-31-04 I located your web site after deciding I need assistance
with rectifying some shyster deals at the Ricart Mega-Mall.
I had purchased a new 2003 Hyundai vehicle on 11-13-04 and find now
that somewhere in the shuffling of the papers at closing we had
erroneously agreed to a service we declared we did not want. This is
the NTDS theft warranty glass etching.
I approached various employees at the dealership on this date as
well as calling NTDS and was informed that it was not cancelable.
If you can assist in my quest for a refund of $795.00 I would
appreciate your assistance and will work with you to rectify this
situation and to help others.
I hope the Ricart family can sleep well at night knowing they are a
bunch of lowdown lying cheats who take peoples money without any
regard whatsoever. May they be cursed sometime with the same
misfortune - trying to figure out how they are going to feed their
family or pay their rent after paying for 3000 dollar transmissions
and engine work for a useless car. May the salesmen who continue to
work for these Ricart Mafia Members also get their just due. I have
been laid off from my job and now have a car I will probably never
feel comfortable in OR be able to pay off. So much for the American
Dream when the Ricart, COCC people are allowed to 'legally' steal.
What is justice for, anyway?

I just wanted to thank you for your web site. I am in the
market for a new
car and after seeing all those Ricart commercials I was convinced
this would
be the place to purchase a new car. I went on-line today to
find Ricart's
web site and I found yours instead. Thanks to you I will be
shopping
somewhere else.
I
so glad to find this site! I was recently in an auto accident that
totaled my 96 Chevy blazer. Faced with the fact that I can not
afford another car payment at this time, due to ACV and the Payoff
of the blazer. I thought about going to Ricart
automall, thinking they could help
someone out in my position. I am GLAD I researched before I bought!
THANKS! Keep up the good work!

These boneheads told me I had to take the theft gard, or I would
not get financed. My credit was not bad, so I did not get why there
was any correlation. This was AFTER I had already given them my down
payment, and they heisted my trade-in. When I went to get my car and
forget the whole deal, they would not let me have it back. I was
alone with a now-crying 3 month old, so I signed the papers and left
to get the baby home. THEN I had to fight with them for 7 weeks to
get my title, finally being directed to some far-flung
"customer service" office. I had to drive to work 3 weeks
on expired tags because I had no title. Those idiots!

Purchased 2000 Kia Sportage from Ricart on 12/09/00. We needed
warranty work done. Just recently found out warranty is not in our
name as being the original owner. Cannot get covered warranty at our
local KIA dealer because of this. Was sold to us as a
"new" vehicle. In service date of warranty is 3 weeks
before we puchased the vehicle and not even in our name.

I feel that what Ricart did on my 2 car purchases was lawfully
wrong. Increasing purchase price of my first car. When confronting
General Manager he argued with me and then said "what kind of
car do you want" knowing they made a mistake (on purpose) he
later told me that if he hadn't offered me another car, I could have
sued for 3 times the amount of the car. Then taking ($925) for a
warranty and later finding out that I didn't have a warranty and
having to spend $400+.
Ron
Ricart refused to tell me the current factory incentives and
rebates, refused to tell me how much of a trade in they were giving
me for my car, told me that the bank would refuse the loan if I
didn't sign up for an extended warranty on the car, told me that I
couldn't buy a bedliner seperate, that I had to get the whole Pro-tec
package and insurance for rust protection, by the time I left, I had
spent 5 hours at ricart, threatened to leave twice because they
wouldn't tell me the current ford incentives, and ended up owing
21,000 dollars for a 13,000 dollar truck. I have no mercy for this
kind of business practice. Ricart is a cancer on Columbus.

The Ricart organization has perfected the art of stealing peoples
money to the point that many victims don't even know they have been
had or don't find out till its to late.

I was charged $1250 for my NTDS by Ricart and I didn’t even
know it until I got the settlement paperwork in the mail earlier
this month. I think the settlement is totally unfair, at the 6.9%
interest I am paying on my $1250 it is costing me $1500! This
settlement is about the most unfair thing I have ever seen. If I get
$500, like the people from PayDays will get, I am still out $1000
dollars. I thought the purpose of law and law suits was to make the
victim "whole" again. This settlement certainly will not
make me whole.

Hey Slayer,
The thieves at ricart nissan got me last week. I been kicking
myself because I found your website too late! The theft
warranty scam, what a crock. Is there any other ways to get the
word out? the public, like myself are just ignorant of these
highly skilled con-men. The ricart customer care director
won't return my calls so I filed a complaint with the BBB. I love
this website.
KEEP KICKING FASTFREDDY RICARTS
ASS it gives all his victims a little satisfaction.
Thanks, KF
My wife and I needed a
vehicle. Our credit was poor. We were financed by Ricart what seems
now a crazy deal. Bottom line is that my wife was in an accident
which totaled the used Windstar we purchased. The insurance payoff
is $4,500-$5,000 less than what the finance company is demanding.
I'm embarrased to say that we ended up with a $21,000 fee on a 1998
vehicle. Am I stuck? By the way I the service was the worst I've
ever experienced. Any advice would be helpful. My Insurance adjustor
told me to look at the dealer because there must be something wrong
for this kind of price difference. Please direct reply to

I recently purchased a 2002 Hail Damaged Hyundai Elantra from
Ricart (about
two weeks ago). The hail damage is really no big deal.
The fact that the
paint is now pealing off the side of the car and I've only had it
for two
weeks is a very big deal. Clearly there is something wrong
with the paint
job on this car. I took it to Ricart this afternoon and their
service
manager said it's acid eating at the paint that I must have got on
the car
because, you know, I randomly throw acid at my car. When I
called Hyundai
to complain, the Hyundai people called Ricart and Ricart told them
that it
was caused by the hail. Was this acid hail, or is Ricart lying
to
everybody? Anyway, I need some help. Can you give me
some advice on where
to go from here?
Thanks,
i was on
the net looking for ricarts site when i came across your site. we
have been to ricart before but never purchased a vehicle. it seems
everytime we go in to look at something they do not have those
special lease deals they advertise but they do have one that is more
expensive. i was getting desperate as i havent been able to
find the truck i am looking for so i thought i would try ricart
again. after reading all those letters i remember why i didnt
like them in the first place. they wasted our whole day and they
wouldnt even let us drive through the used car section they said
they would have to drive us or we could walk.(it was 25 degrees
outside). thanks for reminding what dirtbags they are!
Donna
I USED to sell cars for Ricart at
their Chrysler dealership and quit after two months for the very
reasons you're mentioning in your site. I don't think that I
need to mention any of my input for the simple fact that you've
hit it right on the head on every account. So, the best I
can say is "great work!" I now work for Edward
Jones Investments and being a Financial advisor/broker is a lot
more rewarding since I get to help people with their money as
opposed to screw them out of it. I think this is great, what
you're doing. Keep it up! Rick
I was charged $600.00 for theft guard and was not made aware of
it at all by any sales agent at Ricart Ford (Mazda). I found out
through a consumer alert on TV. The payment on the Theft guard was
included in the full financing of my vehicle (72 months worth). I
would like to at least recover what The Ricart Dealership illegally
charged me as I am a working man with a family...and It is hard
enough to make a living without corrupt business practices taking
food from my family's mouths. Thank you in advance for your
consideration in this matter.
John
Wow.
You're really good. I worked there form 5-1992 to 10-2001. When I
resigned, they illegally back dated my termination date by 3 days
and still won't give me a copy of anything I signed. I took my
children to the doctor to get vaccination shots 2 days before I left
and insurance won't cover me. It's only $450, but it's another
example of them changing (forging) documents. I left because of the
way they treat people. Don't get me started. Keep up the good work.
In March of the year 2003 I bought a new 2003 Ford Ranger from
Ricart Ford. After finally reaching an agreed monthly payment amount
that I was happy with, I was sent to their finance office to sign
the paperwork, After looking at one of the documents I realized that
they had added a 2,000.00 service contract. I was never asked if I
wanted one. When questioning this I found out that they had already
figured this fee into the monthly payment that I agreed on. I told
the finance person I did not want a warranty and did not ask for
one.His reply was "everone buys one so we just include it in
the paperwork" He stated "you dont want to protect this
brand new vehicle ?" I replied "NO" He tore up the
paperwork and reprinted all the documents without the warranty, and
then advised me that my monthly payment would decrease. After then
signing , I realized when we got home that they had also slipped in
(theift gaurd) at a cost of over 700.00 without asking me. I
calledthem and told them to remove it. They would not.
Albert
Hi! I, like the others on your
website, feel compelled to tell my story. I bought a
1995 Honda Civic from Ricart. I knew they were bad news but
I was desperate. My Mitsubishi Galant was dead and it was
going to cost me more to replace the engine than what I owed on
it. I worked 2 jobs and had children so a car was mandatory.
We bought this civic at their used car center. I was
pointing out the things that were wrong with it and was told by
the sleazoid salesman that I wanted them to make this "used
car brand new." They agreed to fix the majority of what
we had listed needing fixed (horn, antenna, air conditioner) so I
drove the car home. When I took the car in to get it fixed,
I got a call from them stating it was going to be over $900 in
charges to ME. I promptly assured
them that I wasn't paying a dime as it was agreed to in my
purchase contract that they were to fix it. They basically
told me to bring the KY and bend over. I called the service
department's manager - same thing. Now, I am not a stupid
female which is what really irked me. I waited until that weekend then
took the car back in. This time, though, I didn't go to
service. I parked the car, went to the used car lot and
looked around. I went into the office when I saw several
people sitting at the tables filling out paperwork and looked
for the rep that sold me the Honda. He saw me and
immediately came over to see how things were going. I went
off!! "They WON'T FIX THE CAR THAT YOU SAID THEY'D FIX
UNLESS I PAY THEM $900 OF MY MONEY!! YOU TOLD ME
THEY'D FIX IT. WE PUT IT IN MY CONTRACT AND THEY WON'T FIX
IT! YOU LIED TO ME JUST LIKE YOU'RE LYING TO THESE PEOPLE
HERE!!!!" He reached out to move me to one of
the cubicles to quiet me but it wasn't going to happen. I
continued. Each word I spoke got louder and louder.
People were staring at me as i ranted and raved. I finally
agreed to calm down when he got on the phone with their service
manager and got this taken care of. In addition of getting
those items fixed at no charge to me, I made them provide me with
a rental car on 4 different occasions at no charge to me. When
they said no, I told them I'd call the BBB, Atty General and
Six on your Side because they messed up. I can tell you,
though, that the Honda was never really taken care of. I
took it back repeatedly for the air conditioner. Their idea
of "fixing" it was to unhook the entire heating system.
Now, we live in Ohio! We do have cold weather here.
Why would they think it's ok to unhook the heater????
I have since traded my Honda in on a
mini-van. Guess where I didn't buy it
from???
My hat is off too you. I have had so
many customers that bought from me after a visit to Ricart an the
horror stories they tell me mirror your sights. It saddens me that
every once in while I lose a customer to the Doctor Evil of car
sales. I just wish more people would visit your sight and maybe we
can put this guy out of business. So I will put a link on my
site to direct my customers to yours.
Sincerely,
Glenn Colin

I worked for Ricart for only about two months right after I gout
out of
the Army in the begining of 2001. I was a product specialist. I was
asked to apply by a sales manger when I stopped to purchase a car.
Anna
Jayco was her name. While working there the car I purchased had the
Transmission pan plug fall out and ruin the transmission, then a
brake
caliper broke and I was riding around in a death trap. Well they
were
nice and paid for the transmission. But after the second problem,
Mr. Ed
Mcglaughlin (or however you spell it) who heads up the Used Car
Factory
(where I worked) offered to help me get out of it and into a
different
car. Well I didn't know anything about the financing and thought he
was
helping me out and now I am driving in the car I had bought and have
about six grand in negative equity. I didn't realize it at the time
because the way he put it I thought he had canceled the first deal
and
started me fresh. I was hurried and thought being that I worked
there
they wouldn't jerk me around. Well surprise! Now I have a car that I
am so
buried in that I can't get out of. I hope you get something for all
the
people they have jerked around and I would gladly help if there is
anyway
I can.
Thanks for your time,
From CC: You're not the first veteran Ricart has scammed.
Not surprising many employees have sued them for discrimination,
sexual harassment, etc.
It is truly a shame that you had to change your site
name. I believe that many more people would be reached
if it had remained the same. I do take some comfort in
knowing that when I typed 'Ricart' in my Yahoo! search
engine, your web site was the next listing under
Fred's.
I have been in the car business for seven years in
another state. I get so aggravated when a customer
tells us that they are going to shop at Ricart to get
the best deal. What a joke. Not only do we lose a
potential customer, but the stereotype is perpetuated
when they realize what happened.
At my dealership we offer extended service contracts,
GAP coverage, and credit insurances from reputable
companies at reasonable prices. None of them are phony
gimmicks. We strive to do business honestly. We price
vehciles up-front so there is no confusion. And there
are no hidden charges.
With any luck the tide will turn against dealers who
habitually commit deceptive business practices. People
like us will still be here doing it the right way. And
people like you will appreciate us.
I am requesting that my name and email address be
withheld. If you post my message you may refer to me
as ACA.
Thank you
Hey,
We just bought a used truck (Ford F150 XLT) from Ricart 2 days
ago. (4-22-03) We made it EIGHT miles down the road
when the check engine light came on. Being it that we live
in the Cambridge area (I-70/I-77 split) and we had our one
daughter at the sitters, we decided to come home. (It was
around 9:00 PM) Needless to say, the truck ran TOTALLY FINE!
Not a single miss or anything else. Mind you, we drove home
from Columbus, to and from work and other misc. places.
Basically a total of 100 miles. Today (4-24-03) My husband
took the truck to get tires put on it. He was on his way
home and the truck started spittering and sputtering.
It was so bad that he had a hard time driving it on the
interstate! We decided to stop at a local Ford dealership
while we were out. They basically looked at the Fidelity
Warranty and laughed. They told us the only way this would
be any good is to take the truck back to Ricart! We came
home (very quickly might I add..lol) and called Ricart. My
husband spoke to a Mr. Tim Plymale and he instructed him to call a
Mr. John Crosswell. That was at 5:26 PM and we haven't heard
anything as of yet.
Basically, do you have any advice for us?
Thanks for your time
From CC: The Fidelity warranty is bogus. Mine I paid $1,500
what turned out to be for 3 Ricart oil changes. The paper work looks
official and convincing to the point of deception. It is also part
of a class action with Ricart.
Basically, I applied to purchase a 2000 Jeep
Wrnagler on 5/06/2000. I signed paperwork to buy at a rate of 11%
through NCB. This was on a Saturday; on Wednesday 5/10/00, I was
called & told that I NCB denied me, & he would work with
another lender. On Saturday, 5/13/2000, Nick called & said Bank
One approved me at a rate of 14%. I was told at that time, that I
could walk away from the car because of the higher rate. On that
day, I went to Krieger, applied for another jeep, and was approved
that day by Chrysler at a rate of 11%. On Sunday 5/14/2000, I called
Ricart & told a different person in finance that I was no longer
interested in the jeep because I received a better rate at Krieger.
At this point, I was told that my application through NCB was
approved, & that I owned the jeep. I asked what date was I
approved; the man said he could not locate the letter of approval. I
asked for a phone number for NCB and he said he did not have one.
The following Monday, Ricart had the jeep towed to my house. I
contacted an attorney, filed a complaint with the Atty General's
office, and had my phone messages from Nick transcribed by
Professional Reporters, Inc. Ricart did eventually take the jeep
back, but it was quite a battle. I still have all copies of my
paperwork; the point stressed to Lynn Dewitt at Ricart was that the
spot agreement had expired by the time they notified me of approval
by the first bank (NCB).
I wish I had seen your website (Columbusconsumer.com)
before I went to Ricart Ford this past weekend. I went to see
a 2003 Ford Focus advertised for $8,995 in Saturday's Columbus
Dispatch. They had one vehicle at that price, and it had the
price of $8,995 marked in big bright crayon letters on the
windshield. I drove it and said I wanted to buy it. Then
the fun began. The sales person started giving me financing
numbers in terms of monthly payments but would not answer my
questions about the interest rate used. When I told them I
could get such-and-such a rate from my credit union, they told me
the monthly payments at that rate would be about $175/month.
That didn't sound right, so I contacted my credit union myself, ran
the numbers, and found the payment would be closer to $141 per
month. I told the salesman I wanted to buy the car using
my own credit union financing. They said "ok," but
then said I would have to sign other papers and then go to my
credit union on Monday, without explaining what I would be signing.
But first they tried to get me to buy some car protection program
covering the seats and paint which they claimed was usually sold for
$2,495, for "only" $500. As near as I could tell,
what I was getting was some spray on the seats and some
coupons for 1/2 off some car washes. Of course I said
"no."
I went into the "finance manager's" office - Ms. Rodricka
Black. She started shoving loads of papers across the desk at
me to sign. Powers of attorney, insurance papers, etc. etc.
Then there came an Ohio Sales tax form which said I was paying over
$11,000 for the car. Why? Ms. Black said this was the
actual selling price and that I was assigning a $2,000 rebate from
Ford to Ricart. I had thought the purchase price was
$8,995, as stated in the ad and on the windshield. Then
came another big surprise: She handed over an
"Arbitration Agreement," saying that if I had
any dispute with Ricart, this meant I agreed to arbitrate it.
I told her I have bought many cars in my life and no dealer ever
asked for an arbitration agreement. She said Ricart had
started using them in March 2003 and I would have to sign it.
I said, "Sorry. I'm not signing any arbitration
agreement." At that point I got up and walked out the
door. I did not think until later that I should have demanded
that they destroy all the documents I had already signed.
Buying a car is never a pleasant experience, but I have never been
so angry in my life. After I got home I found your website.
Wow!! What an eye-opener. I see from the 1992 Ohio AG suit and
Consent Decree that Ricart has already previously been enjoined from
engaging in the deceptive advertising I experienced this past
weekend (failing to disclose total cost of vehicle). The
Arbitration Agreement is a new one on me in connection with car
sales. I am sure that 95% of consumers do not understand what
this is, or appreciate that that they are signing away their right
to sue Ricart.
How can we publicize this and warn consumers not to sign these
things??
From CC: Consider it done. I have called
and verified they are having customers sign arbitration agreements.
6/28/2003, bought new Mazda MPV 2003, signed standard NTDS registration
application, salesperson claimed this helps to reduce APR, and
insurance premium too, because NTDS is recognized by most insurance companies.
From CC: Nope all false. The NTDS you
purchased is valued at $15.00 not the grand you paid.
On the
9th of May I had bought a used ford focus zx3 from Ricart, I had
signed all the papers and was approved for my loan and zero
down, I did however had a trade in but something had told me not to
trade in my vehicle and to keep it, so I did... now almost 30 days
later I get a phone call from the gentlemen who financed my car
saying they have worked out a better payment for me and that he
needed me to come in and do the paperwork, little did I know when I
got there I was told that they had made a mistake in my paperwork
and that I didn't hit the $2,000.00 a month mark and that I needed
to give them $735.00 right then to keep my car or they would take it
from me and of course they were more than willing to take my paid
off car as a trade in to cover it... I don't know about anyone else
but for a single person that is quite a bit of money to come up with
in one day, I was already infurriated with them for selling me a
lie, and pulling my already signed loan agreement with them... So I
ended up giving them the keys to my car and finding a way home from
the dealership... In my opinion it would seem to me that they
breached the contract and they should have to eat the 73500 and let
me keep the car... But I am no lawyer and know nothing about my
rights as far as that goes, but I would have to say something
Definetly seems wrong about what they did to me.... And of course he
had the nerve to tell me that I am still approved and can pick out
another car at the same cost if I decided to buy from them ( the
nerve)! Now what I don't understand is that the day I bought
the car they had a copy of my current paystub and knew exactly what
I was making, now why all the sudden did everything change?
Dave
This is a letter to the better business beruea in
response to a letter sent to them in response to a complaint filed
with them.
I
have received Lynne Dewitt’s letter addressing my complaint
about the unethical sales practice at Ricart Ford. Her points are
valid and I did sign the attached documents, but the essence of my
complaint was missed. I was not complaining that Ricart failed to
present me with documentation, but in fact that a dishonest
employee, Pam Santavicca, lied to me and presented these items in
a different context that they actually were. I was told that it
was a requirement of Ford Financial to take the Ford Rental plan
and that without it the loan was not approved. The Theft insurance
was sold under the pretence that if I failed to take it I would be
assessed bank fee equal to the same amount. Both of these
statements were outright lies. A consumer puts some degree of
trust into a sales person, but when the sales person lies to
increase his or her own personal gain, it is hard to counter. Pam
went as far to tell me when I questioned her about the form that
Ford Financial not Ricart required the ESP. When I asked her about
cancellation, she told me that she did not know if I could cancel
the ESP because the loan was contingent upon it, and if I could I
had to wait for the payment book prior to canceling it.
I have been a loyal Ford buyer and between my wife and I
have purchased 4 new vehicles from the Ricart dealership since
1989, that’s one every 3.25 years. This experience has left me
appalled at the professionalism of its employees. I first I
thought that it was a rouge individual in the finance department,
but the response from Lynne DeWitt has left me to believe that it
is not a single individual that is the problem, but the perception
that I am just one customer and my business does not matter. At
this point I would make the point that the money that was
deceptively charged to me for the theft protection has cost Ricart
Ford thousands of dollars in sales over the long term. I will
never return to this dealership and I will share my experience
with family and friends trying to persuade them not to purchase
from Ricart or their affiliate. I might be just one unsatisfied
customer whose trust has been violated, but I have a lot of family
and friends.
I thought I had seen it all when I fell upon your web site.
The first thing I said to myself was "hum, another
unsatisfied customer". Here is my nightmare.
In the year 2000, my husband had purchased a used Mazda 626 from
another used car dealer on the South side of Columbus. There
were some things wrong with the car, and we thought, what better
place to take it to get repaired, so we called Ricart Automotive.
When I talked to the service rep, I explained that we would be
having the car dropped off, and clearly said, whatever is broken
on this car, fix it! Call us, give us the estimate, and
proceed with work. They immediately called back and stated
that the car needed some extensive engine work, pistons, etc, so
we authorized the work.
Technicians completed the work and gave us the bill of roughly
$1700. We paid the money, in cash, and drove off! By
the time we got home, my husband noticed that the oil light on the
dash never went off. The oil light was on before we took the
car in, so we thought nothing of it. The car seemed to run
ok, no problems.
The next evening, while I was at work, my husband called me from
his cell phone and explained to me that he was stranded on I-71N
at the 17th Ave Exit. The car had started making this
horrible noise and then cut off. He said that they were
about to push the car off the side of the road and down the ramp
onto 17th Avenue. When he got to a safe area, he called me
back, and explained that he and his buddy had determined that
their was no oil in the car! The dipstick was completely
dry! I thought I was going to have an aneurism. All I
could think of was $1700!
We had AAA tow the car back to Ricart Automotive that night
and parked the car right in front of their service bay. My
husband placed a note inside the car explaining the problem before
it was towed.
The service rep called us the next morning as if nothing was
wrong. Asking what the problem was. He remembered us!
When I told him what had happened, he couldn't understand it, told
us he would have the same tech who worked on the car look at it
again. I told the rep that the car had no oil in it and that
it had thrown a rod. He completely denied that.
That evening, the rep called back, said that the tech pulled the
oil pan, never admitted that either no oil, or not enough oil was
placed in the car, and said that yes the engine had thrown a rod,
but it was to no fault of Ricart. I recall telling the rep,
WHATEVER WAS BROKEN, FIX IT! The rep told me that you can
never foresee a rod being thrown in a car, but obviously,
something was going on with the crankshaft because the oil light
was on before we originally brought the car in, the car was
smoking and leaking oil!
Needless to say, Ricart took $1700 of our hard earned money, the
car sat on their lot for over 3 months, they refused to fix it as
if no warranty ever existed on any of the work they ever did, then
they threatened to put a mechanics lein on the car and charge us
storage if we didn't come and get the car from their lot.
I contacted the BBB and the Attorney Generals Office and nothing
was ever done. All I can say is their slogan of "We're
Dealin" is so true! The deal to take your money and
deliver terrible service.
WE WERE DEALT WITH!
Purchased 8/27/99. 1994 Pontiac Sunbird VIN # 1G2JB14H8R7511050.
Had a coupon for $1,000 minimum trade with us to which the
salesperson threw away saying that those were old and he didn't know
why they were mailed out to us. Also, They kept my trade-in; a 1990
pontiac grand-am; after I got home I noticed my trade in was
described but no trade-in allowance was given on my paper work; when
I called them about this they said they would give me $100 for the
trade-in; I went and picked up the grand am instead.

From CC: Judging from the other details you
sent, you also spent $2,000 on worthless "insurance."
I purchased a car in December 2000 from Ricart
Used Cars/Jeep on Hamilton Rd. I recieved your email through
another person you contacted. These are the following problems
I had with Ricart:
1.) When they recieved the loan info back from the
bank/loan company on a given vehicle that was not affordable, they
found a 'similar' vehicle and applied for a loan in my name without
my permission. Ricart than got tags for the vehicle and told
me to sign a piece of paper and take my car home. However, it
was not the same brand, the same class nor even a close match the
vehicle I had chosen. The sales staff argued with me that I
had no choice and had to take the vehicle they had chosen at the
loan specifications without my permission. After beginning to
phone a lawyer in front of the sales staff, they relented.
2.) I did not have good enough credit to
purchase the vehicle I finally settled on, so a family member signed
the loan for me. I was informed that the tags could be in my
name and the car be in the family member's by the sales person, they
took the tags off of my trade in car (which was in my name) and
placed them on the new vehicle (not in my name). After being
stopped by police on a traffic violation, I was threatened with jail
time because the tags neither matched my car, nor matched names,
something ricart informed me was not a violation of the law and that
they reassured me was totally legit. After reviewing the sales
info from Ricart I noticed not only did they put illegal tags on the
vehicle, they also charged me for new tags (something around $40 I
think) but did not place them on the vehicle.
3.) Ricart NEVER sent a copy of the title out, even after six
months of payments. This made it impossible to get legal tags
on the vehicle and thus made the car legally not driveable.
Hello, glad to see such a website. My husband
and I currently live in North Carolina. We were thinking of giving
Ricart another chance, because we are going to be making a trip to
Ohio to visit family, but not after seeing this site!! My husband is
in the military so we are still considered Ohio residents. Anyway,
when we were both younger, (i was 19 when it happened to me and I
think my husband was 20 when it happened to him.) we both "got
screwed" by Ricart. This is two seperate incidents, but along
the same line. Of course it was my first time buying a vehicle and I
was pressed to make a purchase that night, took the used truck home
and was called back a week later stating that the bank
"wouldn't go with it" but they could change the prices
around and make it work, and I had to sign new loan papers and the
like. now similar story with my hubby, except he was buying a camaro,
and they called him back after 3 weeks of having the vehicle, he was
the smart one parked the vehicle on the lot and threw the keys at
the saleperson and put up a big fight to get anything else
accomlished. Very glad to see this website and to know that we
were'nt the only ones and that ricart is still doing the same thing,
so we'll jump on your bandwagon and shop in north carolina!!! Thanks
a bunch
Although
I live in a different state, I have read with interest the stories
posted on your website. I hope that you are successful in getting
this business shut down. I cannot believe that they are allowed to
continue operations when so many people have filed complaints. Have
you considered a demonstration close to the dealership? Anyway, keep
up the good fight

One week after purchasing a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant, I was called
back into the dealer to sign more paperwork.I ended up signing an
entire new set of documents with different prices and a new interest
rate of 21.5%.I felt since I had the car for a week,I had no choice
but to sign. The car was purchased 02-09-03 and trade was not paid
off until 03-14-03 causing much harrassment from Sky Bank.I did not
get a payment statement from Capital One until 03-29-03 and have yet
to get a title.I paid 28150.97 for a car with a sticker of 20007.00

I purchased a Ford Focus on March 16th, 2003. I traded in a truck
in which I owed $5067 after the trade in value. To account for this
negative equity, they gave me a bunch of extra charges including the
NTDS. I was confused by this (because they charged me an additional
$800 beyond the 5K) so I went back to Ricart for an explanation of
the contract. They were not clear in their explanation, and it seems
the NTDS was added on extra, even though I was told it was given to
me for free because of my finance program. They also seemed to hide
the negative equity in my trunk in a strange way because I purchased
the vehicle on the Ford Z-plan (discount price for family of ford
employee) and the the Z-plan price does not show up on the contract,
nor does the $5067.
From CC: They got ya and probably in other
ways you haven't found yet. The NTSD is a $15 product.
What
an interesting site! I thought about going back to Ricart, but
after reading this - I think not.
I took my daughter there to buy her first car - a 2000 Mitsubisi.
The interest rate they gave her - even with me co signing - was a
horrendous 13.9%. They said it was because she did not have
much established credit yet. Well, she got the car and I laid
the paperwork down when we got home. When I got ready to file
it a couple weeks later, I discovered this gap insurance for over
$700 that I didn't remember being asked about (they shove the papers
at you so fast). So I called and told them we didn't want it
and that was a big hunk for a young woman to have added to the
expense of her car. They told me it was too late to do
anything about it. So I wrote the BBB, who contacted Ricart
and they changed their tune. The money was refunded to the
bank that financed the car. Shortly after, we refinanced the
car at her credit union for way less interest.
After that incident, why would I even think about going back there
to look??
IS
In October 1999, we visited Ricart
Automotive to
trade-in our 1997 Ford F-150 and 1997 Nissan Maxima. Our goal was to reduce our monthly payment, reduce our
overall debt, and to purchase a vehicle that met all
of our family's needs. The two vehicles we were most
seriously considering were a 1999 or 2000 Ford
Explorer, and a 1999 or 2000 Ford Ranger extended cab.
We briefly looked at the Explorers, and then went to
look at the Rangers. We explained to the Sales
Associate that we had a 7-year old daughter and wanted
a vehicle that was safe, and also provided easy access
for her to get in and out. The 4-door Ranger extended
cab seemed to fit our needs beautifully, but we
questioned the side-ways facing jumpseats. The Sales
Associate assured us that the jumpseats were totally
safe for any passenger, including a 7-year old. He
even commented that "if they weren't safe, they
wouldn't put seats back there". We made the decision
that this was the truck that would meet our family's
needs, and entered into a lease agreement through
Huntington National Bank at a payment of $415.24 per
month for 60 months, with approximately $8,000 down.
Roughly 3 weeks later, we were driving our new Ranger
with our daughter seated in the jumpseat directly
behind the driver's seat. Another vehicle pulled out
in front of us and we had to apply the brakes quickly.
This was by no means a "screeching stop", but the
force of the sudden stop threw our daughter's head to
the left towards the driver's seat, then snapped back
to the right and into the back window. The sound of
her head hitting the window startled us and we turned
to see her rubbing her head. We asked her what
happened and she said that she had hit her head on the
window, and had a large bump to prove it.
Since then, we have tried to protect her as best we
can in the vehicle. Most of the time we put her in
the front seat with the airbag turned off. If she has
to sit in the back, we try to put a pillow or stuffed
animal between her head and the glass. Even being
aware of the problem, and being very careful, she has
still hit her head 4 more times. Our concern is that
if we were to ever be involved in a serious crash,
that her head would go completely through the glass
and either cause a serious head injury, or be fatal.
On April 10, 2000, we decided that enough was enough.
It's ridiculous to spend over $400 per month for a
vehicle that is not safe for our daughter. We first
went to Ricart's Isuzu showroom, and then to the Ford
Truck area. We explained our situation and decided
that the Explorer best suited our needs. After
selecting a 2000 Explorer XLT, we went inside and
waited for the Sales Manager to come in and give us
some figures. We had explained up-front that the
payoff on our Ranger was $28,010, and that Huntington
would reduce that amount by $980 if we went through
them again. We also said that we wanted $1000 for our
second car (a 1988 Nissan Pulsar NX) that we would be
willing trade to help offset the negative equity, and
we could put $1500 cash down. That would bring our
payoff down to $24,530. We were hoping that given the
situation, Ricart would be willing to show good money
on our Ranger (especially considering our safety
concerns, and the fact that it was only 6 months old)
and give us a great price on the Explorer we had
selected, which had a MSRP of $31, 075. The average
invoice on this particular Explorer is $28,100. Since
Ricart claims to be the largest Ford dealer in the
world, we figured that they would be in the best
position to make us the deal we needed. After all,
being the largest means that by dealing in large
quantities, you have reduced costs per vehicle.
Again, we also thought that our current situation
would be taken into consideration, as well as the fact
that since 1995 we have purchased 4 new vehicles at
Ricart, and referred 2 more. Even if a loss had to be
taken on this deal, certainly money was made on us the
4 previous times and treating us well now would ensure
that we would be back again for our future vehicles.
Well, we were wrong. None of this seemed to matter to
any of the sales managers we dealt with. Sales
Manager #1 was the epitome of the "sleazy used car
salesman". He never gave us any numbers and said that
there was just nothing he could do. We laid out
exactly what we wanted but there was absolutely no
compromise on his end. He then sent in Sales Manager
#2, who was supposedly his boss. This guy did all the
posturing to try and show us he cared, but his
condescending grovel was more than we could stand. He
again said that nothing could be done to help us with
the situation, and furthermore, would not even help
direct us to someone who could possibly help us. We
caught several inconsistencies in what he was telling
us and when we questioned him, he suddenly seemed to
have a memory lapse. We asked him if Ricart could
talk with Ford on our behalf to see if they would be
willing to help out financially, either through a
rebate or discounted price on the Explorer. All he
said was, "Nope, can't do it". We then asked if he
could give us Ford's Customer Service number and he
said, "Nope, can't do it. Don't know what it is."
For heaven's sake, he didn't even offer to help us
find a phone number!! My impression of Ricart Sales
Managers is a bunch of sleazy, uncaring clods that are
out to make a fast buck on an easy target.
On April 12, 2000, I submitted my complaint to Lynn
DeWitt, head of Customer Service at Ricart. She
stated that there was absolutely nothing she could do
for us. I then filed a complaint regarding the safety
issue with the Ranger, and Ricart's conduct, online
with Ford Motor Company. Ford agreed to give us a
$1000 rebate towards the purchase of any new Ford
vehicle, but Ricart still refused to negotiate with
us. We also filed a complaint with the Attorney
General's office, who as ususal, did nothing.
After paying down on my Ranger for another year, we
decided once again to pursue trading it for a safer
vehicle. In March 2001, I submitted a pricing request
from the online service "CarPoint", who sent my
information to Ricart. I received a response from
Sheryl Sager, who requested additional information. I provided her with the info she requested, but she
never followed up with me. When I pursued contacting
her, and mentioned my past problems with Ricart, I
received the following e-mail from Ernie Hyatt at
Ricart:
"If you feel you can get a better deal at
another
dealership maybe you should. We have offered you the
best we can, given your
circumstances.
We will be happy to contact Ford Motor Company
about your concerns with your Ranger.
As for Ricart not offering the best deal, I find
it curious that that you were given a better deal at
another Ford dealership and did not take it. Maybe you
should, if you have such a high disregard for
us.
As it stands now, we will honor the last offer we
gave you, but no more. If you have any further
questions or concerns regarding your Deal, please feel
free to contact me.
Regards,
Ernie Hyatt
General Sales Manager, Ricart Automotive)"
We ended up taking our business to Don Wood Automotive
and got an incredible deal on the Ford truck that we
wanted...no hassling, no attitudes...just great
service and a great deal.
Stay away from Ricart unless you have a good supply of
KY....nothing is worth the headache of dealing with
them.
Keep up the great work with the site!
Thanks,
MMB
I have a Ricart service agreement and warranty.
With the class action going against them should I worry about
whether they will be any good should they go out of business? Can I
transfer them to another dealer? Good web page!
Sandra B.
I love it... I found out about your website from
the DISPATCH!!!!!
hahahahahahaaaaaaaa......
I bought from Ricart once and it was an OK experience, although
being a 24
year old, I 'felt' bad that the finance manager looked pissed that I
kept
saying NO to the extra warranty stuff. Poor guy...
<<snort>>
So a couple years ago, my husband and I walked out of Ricart when
they tried
the bait and switch thing. We got as far as letting them pull a
credit
report on us! On our way out, one of the cocky sales putzes make a
crack to
my husband about me 'pulling him out of there'. I kept pulling and
we saved
some money!!
We live 10 minutes from Ricart, but I schlepp to Buckeye Nissan in
Hillard
for service. Ricart service people are so rude. Buckeye Nissan's
staff are a
pleasure to deal with. Take that, Ricart!!!!
Keep fighting the good fight!!

I was looking to see if
Ricart had a web page because I need to purchase/lease a new car. I
figured they could probably offer me a good deal because of their
size and volume business. The information on your web site will help
me to make a more informed decision. Thank you again and good luck
in your efforts.
M. S.
I hope I am not being too obtrusive, but what has
happened to your web site?
I recently had a terrible experience myself, and your web site was
of great
assistance.
S.M.
You
won't believe my story, I'll type it all out when I have time.
Ricart is
the worst. Is there anyway I can advertise this site?
y fees and still not be
able to do anything so we let it drop.
After being bullied, pushed around, and humiliated in
front of their staff we gave them the $500 so I could make it to
my job on time because I was still in a probationary period and
could not be late.
We decided to do the best we could with the car and
payments and chalk it up to experience. However, a couple of
months later we started having MAJOR car problems. our 2 year old
car with about 20K miles started falling apart. Ricart did fix a
few minor problems with alot of hassle. I took the car to a GOOD
dealership and had it looked at. The mechanic who was nice enough
to check our car over for FREE, told me "If I were you, I
wouldn't drive my family home in that car". He told me that
it had been wrecked badly and was not safe.
I called the Better Business Bureau who gave me some
suggestions and said that they could contact Ricart if I wanted
them too. I traced the title on the Cavalier and found that we
were the 7th titled owner of this car. At that point I figured
that I would never be able to prove Ricart knew the vehicle's
history so we ate our loss.
We ended up trading the car and losing over $5,000 on
it.
I also had a friend/co-worker who recently bought a used
Ford Explorer from Ricart. In less than 2 years he has replaced
the engine, transmission, and entire exhaust system. He is
planning on eating his loss and trading it in or selling it.
My father bought a new Eagle Talon from Ricart in 94'
and they tried to swith the paperwork on him. They tried to change
figures and told him that he would have to give them another $500
to finish the deal. He told them to stuff it and walked out. The
manager caught him in the parking lot and was very apoligetic
(sincere I'm sure). He ended up buying the car on his terms after
throwing a fit. They swore that they lost money on the deal.
{Please send me the bumper sticker
they're stealin!g!!..that guys a thief for sure, thanks
Carl O.
My husband and I are leasing a 1998 Jeep Cherokee
Limited through National City and from Ricart Jeep. When we
got the vehicle (new) we were concerned with leasing as we knew
would could not stay under the allowed 12k/year and was told that we
would not have to keep it through the lease term; rather keep it
50%-60% of the lease term and then we could trade it in to any
dealer without a loss. We were told that at that point,
(50%-60% of the term) the payoff and value would be about equal.
Therefore, we fearlessly (and blindly) went into this lease.
Now 75% through the lease term, we are in BIG trouble. We're
more than ready for a new vehicle, but we have $10,000 in negative
equity in our Jeep!!! (Keeping the Jeep until lease end
doesn't help much either, because we are already at our mileage
limit, and have 18 months to go.)
I just looked at our lease agreement, and we paid about $28K for the
Jeep, have paid $390/mo. on it for 43 months and the current payoff
is $19,800. The trade-in value is only $10K. I cannot
figure out how this works out. I looked everywhere and could
not find the lease rate, or money factor on my paper work. I
don't even know if that is the problem or exactly what is. But
I'm very worried --- A new car is hard enough to pay for, we
certainly can't pay for two cars at the same time. We have
been told by every dealer that we have talked to that Ricart and
National City were in a mess (whatever that means) for doing leases
like ours. National City supposedly no longer leases for that
reason.
Do we have any recourse? Is there any way out?
Thank you for your time. I appreciate your having this web
page – I only wish I would have known all of this 4 years
ago.
Thank you,
Angel W.
Congratulations on your victory against Ricart.
Good going!
I found about your victory on www.politechbot.com
Its very encouraging to here about people winning against
businesses that want to squelch freedom of expression.
cheers!

Congratulations on your site. The world needs more
of them, from cars to
homes. I have to ask, Where is Betty Montgomery on this issue? She
in
hiding? How can she let someone continue to operate after this many
complaints? Especially when Ricart has no qualms about who it is he
commits fraud! The elderly, disabled, apparently this mans morals
only
count when it comes to making a dollar.
A few weeks back, Betty Montgomery supposedly looked into a
complaint of
price gouging by the fuel companies. Afer all, prices would go up 25
to
30 cents a gallon on thursday or friday, then back down again on
monday
or tuesday, she says, I see no evidence of price gouging. I believe
it is
and we are still being gouged. Maybe we need an attorney general
with
luggage, and something filling that luggage, if you know what I
mean!
One more thing, why is it, only in America, do businesses and
individuals, feel they have to make a buck by constantly scamming
people.
Every where you look, SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, is attempting to scam
someone
out of SOMETHING! From politicians to the small time, the scam is
on. I
have lately developed a new motto, "AMERICA, LAND OF THE SCAM!
Keep Up The Good Work!
I have never put a bumper
sticker on my car thinking that it was a hill jack thing to do. I've
changed my mind. This is the one bumper sticker I will display
proudly.

by the way, a ford dealer gave me this web address, his co-worker is
a former ricart employee who saw the light and ran from ricart as
fast as he could.
I haven't had the pleasure of being scammed by
#1 Ricart but I have heard of the various many
stories. My address is listed;
JH
My husband works with an ex-Ricart
employee who knows many of their tactics. He relayed this
story to my husband:
This man, after being an
ex-employee from Ricart for a while, returned to purchase a
car. He found the exact car he want and negotiated a deal
that he found satisfactory. When the agreement on price,
trade-in, etc was established, the man pulled from his pocket a
Ricart coupon that had appeared in the newspaper. The coupon
was for $2000 of Ricarts best deal. The salespeople went a
little nuts, stating, "You should had given us this coupon
when you first came!" (Which is written on the coupon)
He asked, "Why, would it have mad a difference?
Besides, you can't blame me. I forgot about the coupon till
just now." (Which, of course, was a fib!) They
HAD to give it to him with the additional $2000 off! Yep, he
beat them at their own game. Obviously, if they would have
known of the coupon before negotiations, their "best
offer" would have been $2000 more than the "best
offer" he actually got....the coupon would have made the car
the exact cost that had been their "best offer".
Don't you LOVE it!!!!

Nice Site, I'll bet you are having a ball
taking on good old Fred. I
have a feeling if more people read this information they would see
at least
a few of the scams perpetrtated on each of them.
My question is you talked about the Interest Rate Scam where they
come back
and say that they only get you qualified for a loan at 21%.
They did that
to my wife and myself even though our credit and income are not so
Bad. Is
there a way to challenge that interest rate and possibly get it
lowered.
Again, Nice Site and keep taking it to em.

I too am hard to get in touch with. I
don't know exactly what you need to know, but I desperately need
some help. I am a single mother of 2 kids and working full time and
my car payment is 381 a month.
Let me start from the beginning. I
went to Ricart with my fiancée and looked a few cars. I liked the
99 Isuzu Rodeo. They did a lot of paper work and said I couldn't BUY
it but I could LEASE it if I had a joint lease with someone. So I
then had to get my mother to come up and she is on the lease with
me. (The fiancée thing didn't work out). So we signed the papers on
what we thought was a 3 year lease. I also traded in a Corsica. No
down payment was made. I drove the car home. A week later they said
there was a few problems and we needed to come back up. I went back
and they said there was a problem with the amount. I had to pay
about $20.00 more a month to keep the car. I said I'd just take my
car back but they had already sold it. They said they could put me
in a different cheaper vehicle, but I was frustrated and mad and
just signed the papers and left. Also, they had to put my mother as
the first person on the joint lease and me second. She has never had
a drivers license in her life but has financed over 8 vehicles for
her family. They said that after a year it could be transferred into
my name to go onto my credit if the payments were kept current. So
just recently was that accomplished (2 years later). At first they
were going to charge me $400 to do it until I threw a hissy! So now
I am in a bind and can barely make they payments. I have tried to
get out of the lease, but have negative equity. I don't know if this
is right, but at first the sale price was app. $21,000 with payments
of $360. Then the second time the sale price was 22,000 with
payments of $381. Also it's a 5 year lease. Guess I shoulda read the
fine print. But I can't let the lease go without ruining my mom's
and mine credit. I cannot for the life of me get out of this or
afford it. I don't know what to do and I'm hoping that maybe you can
help. If you should need more information, You can call me at
740-xxx-xxxx between 9 AM and 5 PM or at 740-xxx-xxxx after 5. I
really hope you can help in anyway. If not, thank you for trying and
taking the time to read all of this!!!
Rhonda
I bought a car at Ricart and never will
again. First they told me it was a new car then
cleverly changed their verbage to "never titled" ...then I
found out they
were cars used by Ford Employees ... like a gullible Bozo I did not
walk away
they had me in with the finance guy and he cleverly never mentioned
that
the interest rate was much higher because it was for a USED car.
I
desparately needed a car so I contniued through the process.
THey ever pushed for an
extended warranty ...good thing too since in the first two years I
needed
to replace the transmission ($1500), water pump, brake assembly,
fuel pump,
carborator....the list goes on. When I originally picked up
the car it
had a slight flaw in the interior door panel. Leave it and we
will fix it they
said. When I went to pick it up there was a gash in the paint
an inch
wide down to metal across the entire driver's door! Oh it was
there all ready
they said. The body shop[ manager said that I probably put it
there and did
not notice! Finally I got the general manager to come out to
the body shop
everyone lied until one of the paint crew addmitted that the damage
was
done in the body shop ...and it seemed that everyone wwas aware of
it!!! -including the body shop manager. So they said that they
would fix it. But it would
be two weeks. I lost it! I told thaem that I was going
to ALabama in three
days and I intended to take that car! If it wasn't ready I
wanted a comparable
rental at no cost!!! I really created quite a scene and
threatened to
bring in the media ....the car was ready in two days. I never
returned to
Ricart And I never will. I have nothing good to say about my
experience with
that dealership.
So you are not alone.
SBH
PS ...the car was such a lemon that I ttok it to Byers in Dublin
...they
treated me extremely well. I lost money on that car .....but
learned
alot. I have gotten the last four cars from Byers.
They have always been
reat. -So why can't Ricart be the same???
Obviously, I am not alone in my battle against
Ricart. I have a very detailed story about the purchase of a Jeep
Wrangler (my dream car). What will it take to put an end to this?
What they are doing (at best) is unethical - and at the worst, I
would dare to say that it is fraudulent. I am willing to devote as
much time as is necessary to this. I am well educated, have a good
job, and work hard to maintain a happy balance in my life. However,
I will not allow myself to be taken advantage of. A small group of
people can form a class action law suit. I would be very interested
to learn how many Ricart customers are unsatisfied. Please contact
me at 614-xxx-xxxx if you are ready to take this to the next level.
Obviously, going to the Attorney General & 6 on your side are of
no resolution. Also, please let me know if there are any other
avenues you recommend for resolution.Your web site is great. To
anyone seeking out an honorable dealer, I am ecstatic about the
service at Kreiger; the people are kind, quick, have happy
personalities, and are very amicable to deal with. I can't say the
same for the Ricart staff.
Juan S.
Best of luck to you; I hope to hear from you soon,
and thanks again for the info
Hey, great site! I found your page while
looking for "Discover Card
Sucks"pages. We won't do business with Ricart because they are
not civilized enough
tosimply put a car's price on the windshield. The last time we tried
to
shop there they wasted our entire day. First it turned out all the
cars we
were interested it were out of our price range. Then we stood around
for an
hour waiting for them to bring up a car we could afford for a test
drive. We
finally went to se what the problem was and caught them trying to
get
it jump started! If they won't tell you the price up front why
bother, our time
is valuable too
GOOD JOB!
A e-mail sent to dispatch and CC

I'm not sure if you have seen this
yet or not, but back in 1995, there was a
lawsuit filed against Ricart by the Attorney General for violating
the
consumer sales practices act. The case number is 95AP01-19. The site
is
centralohio.thesource.net/Files/9507194.html
F.H.
.Thanks for writing back! I found your e mail address through
register.com The funny thing is, Ricart has purchased
ricartsucks.com & ricartbites.com.
My situation (thankfully) has been
resolved. But it did take a trip to the Attorney General's office +
retaining a lawyer to get it resolved. When I first found your site,
I tried
to forward my tale to you, but it came back undelivered. I plan on
making it
my hobby to share my story with anyone who is willing to listen.
What I am
also wondering about are the number of people who have been duped
that fall
into specific categories. For example, I am 38 years old, and
female. I am
married but applied for the loan in my name solely. Depending on the
number
of similar situations, I would think that a class action law suit
could
result.
Here's what happened to me:
04-06-00: my husband Bill & I went to Ricart Jeep & I
completed all paperwork to
purchase one 2000 Jeep Wrangler. Contract was for 60 months,
at a rate of
11% through National City Bank.
04-10-00: the finance manager called & told me the application
was denied,
probably due to my debt-to-income ratio. (which is believable in my
situation)
04-13-00:I dropped the jeep off to have side steps installed, one
key
programmed, and the tail gate adjusted because it was loose. The
service
staff was extremely rude, and I began to think that it would be a
long three
warranty years if I had to continue to deal with these people.
Also on this date, the finance manager called & said that I had
been
approved through Bank One at 14%. He said that he intended to go to
a
secondary lender (an affiliate of Wells Fargo) because they could
offer the
same rate at a longer term. Nice, huh?
My husband & I went to Krieger. We explained the situation to
them, and we
were advised that, since I was not approved through NCB, the
contract was
not in existence, and we could return the jeep & walk away from
it. We
called Nick (the finance manager) to confirm that the NCB loan was
denied,
and that we could walk away from the vehicle. These questions were
asked at
least three times during the conversation, each time with the same
response.
He even went so far as to say that in 7-10 days I would receive a
letter of
denial from NCB.
Based on this, I completed an application with Krieger. I was
approved
through Chrysler financing at a rate of 11% within the hour.
04-14-00: We called Ricart & told them that we did not want the
jeep. At
this point, we were told that my application through NCB had been
approved,
and that we owned the jeep. When I questioned the date of approval, I
was put
on hold & then informed that my paperwork from NCB was missing
from my file.
I requested a phone number for NCB, but the finance rep said that he
didn't
have it. (strange, isn't it their job to work with the banks?)
I typed up a letter to Nick, and drove to Ricart to remove some cd's
from
the jeep. I was told that the jeep was mine, and that it would be
towed to
my house at my expense if I didn't drive it home. I left the jeep
there, of
course, and came home. I reviewed my paperwork, and discovered a
"spot
agreement", which stated that financing from a third party
lender had to be
secured within 6 days. (it didn't stipulate business days). Nick's
first
notification of approval was on the 7th day, so I thought this would
definitely be a way out. I typed another letter stating this &
faxed it
over.
04-15-00: The general manager called me at work & said that we
owned the
jeep & it would be towed to my home. I told him to do whatever
he had to do.
At this point, I drove downtown & filed a complaint with the
atty general's
office. The counselor I spoke to told me to contact Lynn Dewitt who
is their
consumer affairs rep. I called her that day & faxed over all
correspondence
previously sent to Ricart, including a copy of the spot agreement.
The jeep
was towed to my house, and left in my driveway.
04-16-00: I called an attorney. He made a 3-way call to Jim (the
finance
manager). He outright lied & said that he never said that my
application
with NCB was denied; he said that it was pending. Note, four
employees at
Ricart witnessed my husband's conversation with Jim. It was a very
heated
discussion; when we requested contact names at NCB, Jim refused. At
the end
of the discussion, my attorney advised me to overnight the keys back
to Lynn
Dewitt, along with a letter stating that the jeep had been towed to
my home
without my authorization, that it was left in a spot where it
blocked access
to my garage, and that it was not insured.
05-17-00: Lynn Dewitt called my husband at home & said that she
did not want
a disgruntled consumer on her hands, and she would send someone out
to pick
up the jeep that evening. The same manager who had called me &
said that the
jeep would be towed to my house was the same person who had to come
pick it
up. Interesting, huh?
Anyhow, my issue is over. I do however intend to seek restitution
for my
attorney fees (approx. $550), + four hours time missed from work,
expenses
for paying a court reporter to transcribe two messages left by Jim,
and
parking downtown.
Are you pursuing action against Ricart, or is he pursuing action
against you
because of your web site? Sorry the e mail is so long - but it
is quite a
story. I can't understand why a company can have so many complaints,
and an
obvious established pattern of business practices which are harmful
to
consumers, yet still be allowed to operate. Let me know what your
thoughts
are; my new hobby is also to educate as many people as possible
about my
experience with these people.
Take care, and have a good weekend.
-----Original Message-----
I'd seen a newspaper column (The Dispatch, by
Mr.B.Wolf) that said
there was a grad student who had created a Web site that
was
very "critical" of (or that told accurately about crappy
service he
received from) the Ricart Auto Mall organization. I was unable to
locate any SITE on
the Web that has anything "critical' to say about The Ricart
organization, or to
find theeiter sites (probably closed donw now) mentioned by the
newspaper
article.I too had a 'bad' experience at the Auto Mall, and I
hope to be able to
tell some more concerned people about the way we were mis-treated
by the Ricart "gang". So, if there IS somebady there at
your e-mail address who is interested in hearing about MY amusing
little episode with Ricart's Auto Mall, please let me know!
In late 1997 or early 1998 I ended up by submitting my (so far
ignored)
complaints about Ricart to the North American Nissan office, and
they
generously paid me a small "cry baby" check - in the sum
of about $ 47.
Ricart was "storing" my new Nisan truck as a *special
service* for me,
while I had to attend to ceratin duties. At this time my wife had
been
feeling a lcak-or-confidence in her ability to drive my truck home
on a rainy
night, so we screwed-up by leaving my NEW truck (bad error) with the
Ricart
gang. They then delivered the truck and the wife signed that it was
"good"and I failed to driive the truck for 3 more days.
Then I saw they had
used my truck as a *demonstrator* and put on an additional 400 miles
!
Hopefully, I can still LOCATE the "file" that is my
original
glow-by-blow multi-page "gripe" letter about the Ricart's
Auto Mall's lousy behavior
which you may be interested in seeing. I now feel that Ricart's
activities are generally very *treacherous* and underhanded. If you
are interested in
hearing further details, please respond. I also have a couple
"anecdotes" that
you may find interesting too. A buddy I once worked with had a
"dispute" with
Ricart's about a used ($1500 maybe) car that crapped-out about the
time he got the thing home. The guy got "out from under"
his contract
to BUY the clunker, only bcause he'd had the "smarts' to stop
payment
immediately. There is some other info too. Let me know if you want
any more "evidence" about these jerk-offs underhanded
activities,
although you probably have read MOST of what I know.

Thanks for your reply to my message. Yes,
you're absolutely
correct - my light truck WAS USED by Ricart's as a demonstrator
vehicle for about 2 to 3 days ! The wife was reluctant to
drive either
vehicle home (the new one or the older one, which we had kept)
in the rain that night. We are both in our early sixties, plus she
also
has an astigmatism of vision, plus she is from a small community, so
she's not accustomed to driving on freeways at night. The woman
sales person volunteered (Alexis Cofield, I believe her name is - I
got this
data on-record though !) - and this is an important point -
that Ms.
Cofield had volunteered to DELIVER my new 1977 Nissan XE truck
to my house on the following Sunday evening. I had bought this truck
on (about) a Thursday or Friday evening - this data is recorded too.
When I got around to it (I was worried my insurance might not cover
a new vehicle), I finally noticed there was about 420 miles MORE on
the
odometer than when I purchased it, though it was ONLY 20 miles from
Ricart's Automotive to my apartment! I was "pissed" at
this *trick*,
and I thus commenced to write-up all the details of this
"scam" in order to
present my case fully to any prosucutor when the time came to do
that.
Ms. Cofield had been TOO DAMN EAGER to help us solve our problem,
so in hindsight it was EASY to see how she had flim-flamed us!
Next,
the truck's battery crapped-out on us in Anderson's General Store
parking lot - about a week after I got it, and that store (over by
Sawmill Rd.)
had CLOSED, and the wife and me were to last one's out - except
for some store's staff who were lockng the place up. I
found the battery was a "tiny" one with Nissan's name
stamed on it.
I feel really SURE this was NOT it's ORIGINAL battery, as is
provided
by the Nissan Motors Corp ! Luckilly I was able to reconnect
the
loose battery cables and get home without a tow job. These cables
had
simply *fallen off*, because when they
stole the original battery they had been in a BIG hurry
(apparently), to
get this job done, so the sales Bitch could deliver this vehicle to
me.
I'm in industrial electrical maintenance work so I "recognize
the symptoms"
quite easilly. I've also be SCREWED before, so I can EASILLY
recognize
those symptoms too! I called up the sales manager and he tried to
argue
that I was really "screwed up", and therefore really did
not KNOW what
had caused my truck's mileage to "grow" by 400 more miles!
This, of
course, was idiotic. The wife has her OWN car, so if she had wanted
to
"cat around" without my knowing, she would certainly NOT
have
bothered to drive this brand new Nissan truck, which we
both were afraid might not be insured ! (my car
insurance at that time was
in West Virginia and I could not manage to get in contact with that
fellow - so we didn't drive the new truck until he had pronounced
the
it "had insurance".) The (minor) "Unit"
Sales Manager tried to say
I had lied, or apparently was incompetant. With an abnormally high
I.Q., I really HATE IT when some bozo-the-clown steals from me,
and he insists I'm full of shit when I accuse him of wrong-doing.
I
then talked to the "comnplaint" lady at the Main Office of
Ricart's.
They had then "dillied and dallied" and I got a less-than
*helpful* response from them from folks who were lining me up to
speak with "Big Daddy" who is there REAL Big Sales Manager
for all of
Ricart's. About a day or so later we contacted Ricart's complaint
person,
there has some FURTHER "secretarial person" trying to
contact
me by phone from Ricart's. But I had asked to hear some serious
response from the "Big KahOona", who was the REAL, overall
manager, whose name I now forget (though he's on record too).
The (cooperative) Nissan Motors (manufacturing company)
complaint woman, from their "customer feedback" toll-free
line
managed to have me reinbursed directly from Nissan for about
$ 47. This was payment for the mileage that Ricart's Automotive
had *stolen* from me while they OBVIOUSLY used the truck as
a DEMONSTRATOR vehicle. Their "original" (small time) unit
manager-guy had tried to insist that IF my truck was USED. then it
had been USED by some 'unknown (criminal-type) guys, who had
managed to somehow "jimmey" the lock on Ms. Alexis
Cofield's desk to
get my truck's key ! This story was *totally* a bullshit
"invention" that he
had made-up to protect Ricart's Auto Mall and himself. **** I
plan to go
back to the Site that you listed in your (other0 e-mail, and POST
the basic
details of the friggin' "adventure" I had at Ricart's
Automotive. *** Very
glad that you had the GUTS to hang-in-there, and put some PAIN in
this sonfoabitch Ricart's life. He is getting rich by screwing his
customers
royally. His sales people are only doing what the Ricart clan
permits them
to "commit". Ricart LIKES his sales people to SCREW us,
because this
increases his profits too. These salespeople are "clawing"
and "scrapping"
like tigers to increase their sales volumes. This will generate
increased sales
and increase their commissions, and it the same time increase
Ricart's level
of profits too. I have heard that Ricart want to get into the sales
of airplanes
and insurance, and that he has plans to become an Internet provider
!
Ain't it scary to think of Ricart as a competitor of Bill Gates and
Microsoft,
and a rival of MSN and of AMAZON.COM ? Catch you later
with more details. *** A guy who sells pickup truck caps told me
that he didn't buy his Nissan truck from Ricart's, and that many of
the
folks "in the know" would rather pay a perhaps a hundred
bucks MORE
than to do business with Ricart's - - - I AGREE ! Another guy
told me a
fellow he either knew ( or heard about) had bought a used pickup
truck.
This guy stopped for gas at a station and one of the employees there
told him that was the truck he had traded in at Ricart's now too
long
ago. The former owner then ased the guy how MUCH money had this
fellow paid for the old trucd and the man told hin the price. The
guy who
had traded-in the truck said that he had paid TOO HIGH a price, that
the
truck had TOO MANY miles to be worth that much dough. The guy
who
just bought it said in had only about 38,000 miles and they
looked at the
"clock" which said this was true. The fellow who had sold
it (traded it)
at Ricart saind the was "crap", and that it had "over
100,00 miles on it"
when he sold. When Ricart's saw that their scam was discovered,
they told this guy they would give his the truck FREE if he
"forgot"
the problem had occured.

Dear Lynne,
Per our discussion this afternoon, please find a synopsis of this
past week’s events:
Saturday, May 6, 2000:
I went to Ricart Jeep and completed application / financing
paperwork for purchase of one2000 Jeep Wrangler. Finance contract
was completed through National City Bank, at an approximate rate of
11.4% for 66 month term.
Wednesday, May 10, 2000:
I was contacted by Joe in the finance department, and was told
that my application for NCB had been denied. He said he would try
another bank.
Saturday, June 13, 2000:
I dropped the jeep off at Ricart to have side steps installed, to
have one car key coded, and to have the rear tail hatch adjusted. I
received a call from Joe stating that my application had been
approved through Bank One at a rate of 14%. Upon speaking to Joe
later on that afternoon, he also stated that he was going to try to
see if an affiliate of Wells Fargo would approve the loan at the
rate of 14% for 72 months. Joe advised me that although the term was
longer, the monthly payments would be lower. I asked him, and my
husband Frank also spoke to him at this point, what would happen if
we did not wish to go with the 14% rate through Bank One. He stated
at that time that we would be able to walk away from the car, based
on the fact that we were not approved through NCB and that Bank
One’s rate was significantly higher.
Sunday, June 14, 2000:
My husband called the finance department and spoke to Fred at
11:00 a.m. He told him that we were no longer interested in the
jeep. At that point, Fred told him that we had in fact been approved
at NCB and that we were now obligated to keep the jeep. I spoke to
Fred myself, and asked him to please tell me at what point were we
approved, and also the date of denial. He put me on hold for a
couple of minutes, and then told me that he could not locate the fax
from NCB, indicating approval or denial. He said it was missing from
my file. I then asked him for NCB’s phone number; he said that he
did not have it.
Also on Sunday, the jeep was still at the Ricart
lot. I drove down to remove my personal items from the jeep, and had
also written a letter to Nick, in the hope that he would uphold his
commitment to us. I was approached by one of the sales managers and
was told that I had been approved for the loan, that the jeep was my
responsibility, and that I needed to drive it off the lot or it
would be towed to my home at my expense. I told him to do whatever
he thought he needed to do. I handed Fred the letter I had drafted
to Joe, and left the lot.
Upon returning home, I reviewed my Spot Agreement, which was
signed by both myself and Fred (in financing department). This
agreement clearly states that Ricart had six days to secure
financing, or the vehicle could be returned. I drafted another
letter to Nick, and faxed it, along with a copy of the first letter,
and a copy of the spot agreement to his office.
Monday, June 15, 2000:
I went to the office of Betty Montgomery,
Attorney General for the State of Ohio, and filed a consumer’s
complaint. I was advised by their representative, Jeff Simmons, to
contact you regarding the matter, and to be sure to advise you of
the spot agreement; the Spot Agreement expired six days from the
date of signing (signed on 6-6-00 – six days from that date is
6-12-00).
Again, note that we were told of denial at NCB on Wednesday, June
10, 2000; told of approval at Bank One on 6-13-00; and miraculously
approval at NCB on 6-14-00, after we told Fred of our intention to
rescind the deal.
The problems I have with these inconsistent stories are such:
- I was contacted and told that I was denied through NCB on
6-10-00.
- Spot agreement would have had to be fulfilled by 6-12-00.
- I was told that I was approved by Bank One on 6-13-00.
- I was told that I could walk away from the car if I did not
want to complete financing with Bank One at the higher rate,
also on 6-13-00.
- I was told of approval through NCB only after I advised Fred
that I wanted to rescind the deal. The date was 6-14-00
- Upon requesting information from Ricart on the status of the
loan application through NCB (i.e. date of approval, date of
denial, etc.), Fred said that the paperwork was missing from my
file.
- Upon requesting the phone number and contact name from NCB so
that I could get the information from them, I was told (by Fred)
that he did not have the number.
Obviously, things are not as they should be. At a minimum, I
would say that this is unethical; at a maximum, I would dare to say
that what the financing department is doing is fraudulent (missing
paperwork, looking for higher interest rates, etc). I obviously have
no way of knowing if they ever processed the NCB loan prior to
6-13-00; my paperwork, which should be retained by Ricart, is
missing.
At this point in time, you know that I have filed the complaint
with the Attorney General’s office. I would obviously still like
to walk away from this peacefully and without incident, however I am
prepared to see this through until your finance representative’s
commitment is upheld. I feel as though I have been manipulated and
lied to, and will not allow myself to be taken advantage of.
Included with this letter are copies of the letters addressed to
Nick, as well as a copy of the Spot Agreement.
Again, I thank you for your assistance in this matter. Please
contact me (in writing) via fax at xxx-xxxx if I can provide you
with any further information.
Sincerely, Ronda W.
